VALLEY OF ANGELS Episode 7-8

Nothing, you just look familiar’.  ‘Okay, you should leave now, am busy’ she turned and faced her computer…  ‘Why are you pushing me away… I thought you enjoyed my company’…he looked dejected…  She faced him with a mocking smile…she was really enjoying this game, it felt so good…  ‘Mr. Adams…I don’t know what you think but I really don’t care about that either. I had a need and you satisfied that need. I believe your wife needs you at home….’ She smiled sweetly and walked towards the door…  ‘So you only used me’? His insides burned…he hated himself…  ‘Not really’ she waved him off and shut the door…  ‘Yes! I did it’   she saw the humiliation all over his face…he would suffer more in her hands…              Seyi felt restless as she paced the room; she had mad been married to him for years now and still no issue. Her heart raced as she remembered the past. There were many things Chimobi didn’t know about and she was safe for a while but how long would he stay patient with a barren woman?  She couldn’t bring herself to trust Chimobi…he’d never stayed out all night…she waited for him to enter the house.  She was quite sure he was having an affair… her friends had ben right… she had to divorce him and start a new life…before she lost everything…his family had already given up hope on her…what was she waiting for…  ‘You’re such a cheat…you dirty liar’ she spat bitterly…  He stared at her fragile frame… he didn’t hit women but Seyi was pushing him to the wall…  ‘Won’t you say something in your defense?’ she started towards him….  He pushed her away gently…this wasn’t the time …he had so many things to do…a lot of digging…  Before he could reach his room, he felt a hard object on his head….it hurt like hell…  ‘oh my god’ what had she done? It was too late …  The blood rushed all over his body….he ignored her cries and ran to fetch his first aid box….  He had no idea what she’d hit him with this time…she was getting dangerous each day…he couldn’t take this for long…  He touched the source of the blood….he’d been cut…luckily it wasn’t very deep…  ‘ I am so sorry Chimobi, I don’t know what came over me’… Seyi cried…she was a jealous woman who was gradually going crazy… it was too much for her to bear; his infidelity hurt her deeply…  ‘I need to be alone’ he ordered…  He undressed quickly and grabbed his phone… luckily his friend Gibbs worked with the Nigerian embassy…so there was a chance he could find out one or two things about Diana Anyebe…he needed to know…          Some officials had called him that morning to attend to an important matter at the embassy… on getting there he’d found some young men in chains…they were deportees from Libya…  He took one of the men to his office…he’d recognized him instantly…he looked so worn and tattered….  ‘Hello boss’  ‘Drop the act’ Chimobi wasn’t in the mood for one of his games…  ‘You sound so serious…has something bad happened’? Gibbs hadn’t heard this urgency in Chimobi’s tone for a long time…  ‘Yes it’s quite serious…remember that hot new girl in my company? I want you to get me all information available on her…her name is Diane Anyebe’…  Gibbs looked across to the man that sat at the other end of the table…Omale Anyebe…  ‘Why’? He asked his friend…  ‘She may be Omale’s younger sister…am expecting your report at the end of the day’ Chimobi was worried…  ‘Diane Anyebe? You know what Omale is in my office right now….I’ll get back to you’…  Gibbs turned and faced him…this was too much of a coincidence…  ‘That was Chimobi Adams….you remember him right’? Omale nodded fearfully…his life was in danger…safe for the Nigerian government he would’ve been dead by now…  ‘When last did you see your sister’? Gibbs asked curiously…he’d heard the story too…Diana had disappeared mysteriously…  ‘Many years back….I think she’s dead’ Omale replied…he hated talking about her…he’d been a pampered fool…he’d betrayed the only sibling he had…now he faced the world all alone…  ‘If you see her again…what’s the most striking feature that you’ll use to remember her’…  He paused…. ‘I don’t know…her eyes maybe….’ He wasn’t particularly close to Diana…  ‘hello send me the files of Nigerians that returned from South Africa some months ago…if possible you find one miss Diana Anyebe… she’s brown skin, average in height …she worked for a South African firm, Conral Limited…I need her files immediately’… he sent a call through to the records department…  ‘What’s going on’? Omale was confused….was Diane alive?  ‘Let’s wait and see’ Gibs replied….Omale had some questions to answer from the police, as he’d been into drug trafficking…  Thirty minutes had passed before one of the workers brought some files to his office…  ‘Thanks’ he offered her some tip…  ‘Here, take this passport…while I go through the papers’…  He fingered the passport gently… the lady in the passport seemed so different…so beautiful but he’d always known his sister even in the dream…her eyes were still the same and her natural hair was unmistaken…            He swallowed the tears that threatened to fall…. Would she ever forgive him? Was she even alive?  ‘I think she’s the one’ Gibbs was the first to speak up….her data showed she’d attended the same secondary school as all of them…  Why was her disappearance so easy? He had many questions but this wasn’t the time…  ‘yes, she has lost weight but her eyes are the same’ he wiped his face with his hands…..remembering all that had happened when Diana had gone missing… his mother acted unperturbed for a month…but as days passed and they was still no sign of her… she was down with high blood pressure and lived mostly in depression. She couldn’t forgive herself…the death of Uncle Oche had taken them back to abject poverty …  They left for their hometown in Makurdi…his mother committed suicide shortly after that……  ‘Wait here…the NDA are coming to ask you some questions…make sure you comply’ Gibbs walked out leaving Omale behind.  ‘You don’t look good’ Saddiya observed her friend…since her return from the office; she’d looked very restless…  ‘I slept with Chimobi’ Diana closed her eyes…she hoped she was doing the right thing…  ‘My God! Why?’…  ‘I still love him Saddiya and I am still attracted to him I just couldn’t help it and he’s married…hell he doesn’t even remember me’.  ‘Relax’ she placed her hands on Diana’s.  ‘Just follow your heart…do what’s right…I can’t advise you on the path to follow, only you can save yourself’ Saddiya replied, though she wasn’t comfortable with her friend being with a married man.  She was confused or maybe her heart was…one minute she hated him…the other she adored him…her greatest mistake was returning to Nigeria. She braced herself up…she had to change her plans….

He took calculated steps as he walked into the massive building of Fesocorp limited….his wife had almost killed him the previous day…she was getting very possessive and he didn’t like it…  He thought about giving her a divorce…he couldn’t be with her anymore…she was harmful…besides his heart was somewhere else…  The revelation from Gibbs had clouded his mood from the moment he heard it… she had transformed from that timid girl to this extravagant woman…full of wisdom and experience.  Would she ever forgive him?  Sadly, he couldn’t get her off his mind…. After their night of passion…though she was still a stranger to him, he felt he’d known her his whole life…  There was some sort of connection…  ‘Good morning sir’ Tola welcomed her boss…  ‘Good morning Tola’ he replied coolly…he had a lot on his mind…  ‘Any letters…’? He had to clear his table first…  ‘Yes, One from Miss Anyebe…’  A letter from Diana? What was that about?  ‘Bring it forward’  He opened the envelope in a rush: *RESIGNATION LETTER…*  The heading caught him by surprise, what was the meaning of this? He didn’t bother reading the rest… she was bent on revenging the past…hurting him like he did her…  A feeling of fear crawled up his spine…what if she’d gone out of the country…he would die if she left him…  He had so many questions…how had she survived? Risen to this level of success… and what happened to the pregnancy…  His thoughts raced…had she placed a curse on him for denying the pregnancy? Was that why Seyi couldn’t conceive?  ‘Nah’ he didn’t believe in superstitions.  He didn’t have time to waste so he moved towards her office…          She packed up slowly…Saddiya wasn’t aware of her plans…she would miss her dearly…  There was nothing but pain for her in Nigeria…she had to leave…for days she’d thought about Chimobi…she thought she was over him but he was the first man she ever loved. She’d lived in self-deceit for a very long while…  ‘Hello, it’s me, Sean…’ he tapped at her door…  She grimaced…what was he doing here? He was such a creep not to get her signal….she wasn’t interested!  ‘Hello Sean…’ time was running out on her but she still welcomed him in…  She was surprised by what she’d seen…flowers! She loved Dandelions…  Ten men stood outside the office with different bouquets of flowers…they smelled wonderful…  No matter how much he irritated her, no matter the pain she felt…the sight of flowers brought smile to her lips…  ‘How did you know’? She engaged him…only her close friend knew she liked flowers…  ‘Saddiya…’he smiled hoping to gain her attention…  ‘Wow, a million thanks, Sean you’ve made my day…but I can’t go out with you’ she was going to let him down easy.  ‘Why? Don’t you feel anything for me?’ he was already hurt…  ‘Not that…am leaving town’ that was the least she could say…  ‘Not so fast’ Chimobi appeared at her door.  Sean panicked …the boss was around…  He left without an argument…  ‘I see you’ve been busy Diana’ he drawled…  She was cold…only a cold-hearted person would make him feel that way and dump him later…  ‘I see somebody now knows my name’ she sealed her case carefully…it was time to leave and she wasn’t ever coming back…  ‘Diana please doesn’t go…stay with me’ he held her hands …  ‘Let go of me’ she averted her gaze from his pleading eyes…  She loved to see him hurting…the way she was feeling…  ‘ I am sorry for everything I did to you…I was a child back then please forgive me…I love you ‘  ‘Love?’ she scoffed…did he just say ‘love’?….         ‘Chimobi…I don’t feel a thing for you…you hurt my pride…I told you everything…even the way my uncle molested me…I trusted in you…you were my everything….but I was only to be used and dumped by you…and now you speak of love’?…she pushed him aside but he blocked her way…  Why was he so adamant…why was he bent on breaking her heart the second time? He was married for crying out loud!  ‘I know I hurt you deeply…. I rejected you when you needed me most and our baby….’ She cut him short…  ‘Don’t even go there’ she cried…he had no right to talk about the daughter he never cared about…  ‘Just forgive me…am sorry Diana…you can’t hold on to this forever…’ he fell to his knees and tugged at her skirt like his life depended on it…  ‘Where was your love when I begged in the streets? When I gave up that child for adoption…where were you when I was hurting…you’re now married and happy and you think am still that foolish girl that you used’?  He had never been that guilty…she had passed through a lot…  She wiped her face hurriedly…she had to go far from him…  But her heart told her to stay….she was moved by his show of emotion…Saddiya was right, she had to let go of all the hurt…all the pain…  ‘Please…forgive me’ he sobbed…he couldn’t imagine his life without her…  ‘You only love me because I now look different’ she blurted out….  ‘maybe you are right…but it’s deeper than that…you’ve gone through a lot over the years…let me in…I want to be your sunshine’ he pleaded…  She observed him quietly…he was being honest…but something else bothered her…  ‘What about your wife and kids’? She wasn’t ready to be any man’s mistress….  ‘I don’t have any kids and am divorcing Seyi’…  ‘Look at her’ he showed her the back of his head….  ‘My god who did this to you’ the wound was still fresh…  ‘My wife…she’s going crazy…so you have nothing to worry about’…  He met her eyes but they were filled with uncertainty …  ‘I promise you…I will never break your heart’…he sealed his promise with a kiss…  ‘One more thing’ he began…he needed to be honest with her…he needed her to trust him…  ‘What’s it’? Wondering why he broke away as she obviously enjoyed the kiss…  ‘One of my friend works at the embassy…with his help I got to know your true identity…’ he paused not knowing how she’ll take the next piece….  ‘Hello’? Why was he dumb all of a sudden …  ‘Your brother…Omale Is to undergo judgment for his involvement in drug trafficking’ …  ‘How’s that my business? He could die for all I care’…she hadn’t heard anything concerning her family for twenty good years…why would she care now? Besides Omale had never treated her nicely…he deserved what was coming…  ‘Are you sure about that’? he smiled…she had put up those walls again…but she didn’t blame him…Omale had been an asshole back then…but like they say…you don’t get to choose your family…  ‘I am sure…let’s spend some time alone this weekend’…she put her hands around him…  ‘Where would my angel prefer’? He shifted closer to her…  ‘Valley of angels’ she pecked his head…  ‘What’? He was well traveled but he’d never heard of such a place…  ‘You just called me an angel…you’re an angel too’  ‘hmmm,’ he rolled his eyes…what was she getting at?  ‘Valley of angels…I made that up in my mind…it’s a place where lovers meet in sweet surrender’…
