Kite woke up to the sweet smell of omelettes, freshly baked bread and some other freshly prepared scents she couldn’t quite piece together. She stirred, hearing Ise’s voice.
“ It’s about time sleeping beauty woke up, don’t you think?” He asked as he sat down beside her, his hand smoothening her hair from her face. She smiled as she opened her eyes to see the tray he’d set beside the bed. He was smiling and looking at her like she was the only one who mattered to him in the whole world.
Last night came into mind and she thought how lucky she was to have found someone like him, her hand went to his cheek, caressing the rough stubble that had grown overnight. It was at the tip of her tongue to say she loved him but she was scared it would spook him. Last night had been even more awesome than the previous times they’d made love, probably because she’d let go of the huge secrets and burdens weighing her down and holding her back from giving in completely to him. She wasn’t scared of him leaving anymore, he was hers truly, madly and deeply.
She could see from his t-shirt and pyjama bottoms he’d made his way up to his room and changed sometime that morning.
After the hot, quick session against the wardrobe doors last night, they’d proceeded to the bed to have a more detailed round before dozing off till morning.
“Do you blame me for sleeping for so long? I need the rest Williams, its not easy keeping up with you.” She joked as she sat up pulling the sheets up with her as she was na’ked underneath.
He laughed “I know, that’s why I called for an early breakfast.”
“Thanks, you’re very thoughtful, aren’t you?” She eyed the tray which contained an assortment of dishes “Looks really good but it’s too much, wow Ise, it seems you want toget me really fat here, I’m barely managing my body the way it is, you want me to become Michellin man?”
This got him laughing “You’ll still be a pretty Michellin man so I wont mind at all, any how you are I’ll still love you.”
Her smile died as she heard the ‘L’ word.
“What?” He asked frowning confusedly “What is it?”
“You said you loved me.” She pointed.
“Well… It should be quite obvious by now”
“Isn’t it too soon?” She asked him “as in, isn’t it too soon to know if what we share love?”
He smiled as he took her hand in his “I don’t know about you, I can only speak for myself when I say I know what I’m feeling and I know with great conviction that it is love. I’m sorry if I spooked you but really, it is what it is.”
“Spooked? I’m not spooked.” Funny that she’d thought she was the one who would have spooked him if she’d told him her feelings first.
“Yeah, I’m sure you’re not.” He said patronisingly with a smile.
“I am not, Ise! I just thought it was too soon, that’s all besides I’ve been considering searching for an apartment of mine soon.”
“What? Why” He asked.
She shrugged “ That was our agreement in the beginning, I was supposed to be here temporarily. You know its not really nice living with you like this, my mother would freak out if she found out.”
“Hmmm…well, I’ve gotten quite used to you being around..”
“Yeah, me too but I want us to do this right.”
He nodded “yeah, we need to do whats right, so….then, when are we meeting your mom and telling her about us?”
It was Kite’s turn to frown, not sure she’d heard right “What? I don’t understand… tell her what exactly?” She’d only just told her a few days back that she’d broken off with Izu, how could she come and saddle her with Ise now? It was too soon.
Ise sighed “ Kite, what exactly do you want for us? I realise that maybe I’m a bit forward, I’ve been brought up to know what I want and go for it, most time disregarding what the other party thinks or expects. So, now I think I should take a step back and listen to what you want for us.
For me, I don’t see myself being with anyone else, other females appear dull to me when compared with you. After what I had with Izy ended, I searched for something half as good as that relationship but couldn’t find a girl who could keep me interested until you came along. The feeling I get with you, it isn’t something that can fizzle out easily and even if we spend the next fifty years together, it’s still going to be here burning,” he smiled then “maybe not as hot then, but it will be here for sure.
That’s what I feel for you and left for me I’m ready to take the next step but I surely do not want to rush you, so, tell me what you want.”
Kite had listened to him carefully but didn’t really get what he meant by next step “Next step, marriage?”
He laughed “No, meet your family….. get engaged?” He added hopefully.
“Engaged?” Her eyes were wide “We’ve barely even been together for …. Ise, are you being serious here? Or is this one of your lame jokes?”
He shrugged“ I’m very serious, you might think its too soon but I know what I want for the rest of my life and I do want you but, what do you want?”
Kite frowned, she hadn’t seen this coming, she was in love with him but getting engaged so soon? She didn’t know what to say.
“Or don’t you see yourself with me?” He asked.
“No, Ise, it’s just… apart from it being too soon for me, there’s the issue with your mom. You see… one of the reasons my father left, I think was because of his family’s pressure, they’d never accepted my mother, I’m not sure because she has never confirmed it but I think that was also a factor. I was hoping your mom would at least be able to tolerate me a bit after a while, but she’ll hate me even more if we spring an engagement on her.”
He sighed “Kite, my mother will agree to whatever I want, she is not a problem.”
Kite shook her head “I don’t know, Ise.” The stares she gave her whenever they bumped into each other always left Kite feeling cold. “ Can you give me some time to think this out? Please? I want to be with you but I really don’t want to rush things, rush us, is that okay?”
He shrugged, his face falling “Okay, I don’t have a choice anyway.”
She pulled him to her for a hug, she felt wonderful, this magnificent guy wanted her for a wife? Wow! It was a real shocker.
He continued “ As for moving out, that’s not happening.”
“Ise, come on nau, be reasonable. We are live in lovers, they’ve already started labelling me at the office and I’m not finding it funny, I have to move out, it might help.”
“Then lets make things official, so instead of lover you become fiancée.” He suggested with a mischievous smile.
She shook her head, not smiling “Nice try, Williams! You’re not funny.”
He shrugged going for the breakfast tray “I wasn’t joking, now end of discussion, time for breakfast, the croissants are getting cold.”
“Discussion not ended, Williams, only post poned.” She replied as she got up in all her n’aked glory and walked the short distance to the wardrobe to put on her silk robe, she shrugged it on and tied it securely around her waist, all the time, aware of his eyes following her movements. She went into the bathroom to brush her teeth.
Mrs Omotunde Williams was having breakfast in the garden when one of the staff brought over her phone, she’d left it absent mindedly in her bedroom. This was the case these days, her mind was on so many things since her kids had decided to go all rebellious on her. Jeje having whatever with one of Ise’s playboy friends and barely talking to her. Ise’s own case was something else, he’d totally removed himself from her. Her son never spent time with her anymore, when she even tried to talk with him, he always brought up some excuse or the other on why he couldn’t speak with her. She was losing her son and she didn’t like it, all because of one common girl who had him wrapped around her finger.
She really couldn’t understand him, didn’t he see that she didn’t even come close to him in anything? It couldn’t just be her pretty face that got him so into her, there had to be something else but Omotunde couldn’t see it, was it some sort of love charm ? Omotunde believed those things were possible, maybe she should involve her pastor in this? Maybe prayers could break whatever hold this girl had over son.
The phone began to buzz again, bringing her back to planet earth, she answered.
“Goodmorning ma, this is Dr. Victoria Sholanke.”
“Dr… Vicki?” She asked to be sure, it had been a while she’d heard from the lady.
“Yes ma, it’s Vicki, how are you doing?”
“I’m very fine, thank you for asking, so you’re still in the country?”
“Yes ma, I’ve been quite busy with some projects, sorry I’ve not called for a while. Also…Ise and I are not in good terms, so I kept my distance but I realised its not nice as you are a good friend of my parents. That’s why I decided to call and find out how you are.”
“I’m good my dear, but what in the world happened between you and my son? He said something about you being married twice and both husbands dead?”
“It’s …not as crude as it sounds, that’s also another reason I’m calling. Ise never gave me a chance to explain…but I have a perfectly good explanation for everything. I’ll be leaving the country in few days and I thought I should treat you and Jeje to a little get together at my place and also tell you my own part of the story so you don’t think the worst of me.”
“Well….thats not necessary…”
“No ma, please it is! Please just indulge me in this, I don’t know when next I’ll be back and I don’t want to leave on such a sour note. Please ma, you’re good friends with my parents and made me feel welcome so please indulge me.”
Mrs Williams smiled as she gave in, she really liked this woman and she was such good friends with her parents. “Okay, Okay, Victoria. We’ll be there. Tonight?”
“Yes tonight by eight p.m. Thank you ma, you wont regret it, I promise.”
Kite was on the ride back home from town with Jeje who was at the wheels of the car, the other girl had invited her to spend sometime with her friends and since Kite hadn’t had much doing, she’d obliged. They’d ended up spending most of the day together, the time was past seven now and they were finally returning home. Jeje was a nice girl and Kite enjoyed being in her company even if she felt quite guilty that she’d been behind the stolen Range Rover. The girl was back to driving her former car which was a BMW X3 which she wasn’t really crazy about, Kite knew she missed the range.
“So how you feeling since the loss of your car?” Kite asked “I know you were really crazy about it.”
“Yeah…it was such a cool ride right? But no worries, I’m not too bothered about it, if I need another I’ll just put pressure on my dad and he’ll get me one. I’m just glad that you weren’t really hurt, my brother would have been really mad. He’s just so fond of you, I’ve never seen him so crazy over a female before.”
Kite smiled recalling their conversation that morning. “He’s a wonderful person.” She said, every woman’s dream. She could believe he was indeed in love with her, she felt the same about him too, and she would have agreed to his proposal if not that things weren’t really right at the time, but would it ever be? Would his mother ever really accept her? He’d assured her that his mother wasn’t a problem but Kite had her doubts.
They’d talked over everything during breakfast that morning, she’d opened up on everything she’d been keeping from him. She’d also told him about Kenny, the night at Ola’s party and also her suspicions on his activities with the company’s money. He’d been stunned but had believed there had to be an explanation for it all.
He’d known Kenny for years, since his secondary school days, Kenny had been a scholarship student, that was the only way he’d been able to get into the highly exclusive Private school. He was really intelligent and they’d been friends since then till now, he didn’t think Kenny could be up to things like that. The company had been recording massive profits the past four years since Kenny had joined the company so Ise was sceptical.
Kite had passed on everything she’d gathered to him to look through and come to his own conclusion, it all just didn’t add up. She didn’t want him blinded by their friendship, Kenny was up to something.
Jeje continued speaking “Oh, he could be wonderful but you don’t want to get on his bad side, once his mind is closed off on someone, it takes the grace of God to open it again. He can be so stubborn and annoying, its frustrating.”
Kite turned to her “You guys really should make up.”
“Make up? With Ise?” She scoffed “There will be no making up until he gets his way, he wants me to leave Ola and really, that’s not gonna happen. He’s such a know it all, he wont even give his friend the benefit of the doubt. Yeah, Ola has been in one too many relationships and has never been serious, doesn’t he think I know this? He’s different now but Ise will never believe that, Ola is the last person who’ll do anything to hurt me, the last person, he’s always been a good friend to him and to me too.”
“Yeah, but…Ise doesn’t see this your way, you really should try talking….”
“No way, talk with that hard headed man? He’s the one who owes me an apology!”
Kite had to smile, shaking her head. “The both of you are so hard headed, you’re both so alike in many ways.”
“Oh please…I’m not like him in anyway, he’s just like our mom, I’m more like my dad.”
Kite laughed “Okay.” She wasn’t going to argue with that.
“The woman sef, I have to spend this evening with her, I’m not looking forward to it at all. One of her friend’s daughters invited us over for dinner or something at her place….oh, I’m sure you know her. There was a day we walked in on you and Ise in his office when you guys were…doing whatever.”
Kite frowned trying to remember, it didn’t take long, the beauty queen, the one who had been forcing herself on Ise. She didn’t like this. She turned to Jeje “ Your mom’s close with her?”
“hmm, she’s close with her parents and kind of likes her, she’d been trying to fix her up with…Ise but he chose you instead.” Jeje turned to give her a reassuring smile “Don’t worry dear, you’re not in competition with anyone, you’ve got his heart.”
Kite managed a little smile wishing she could find solace in her words, as far as his mom didn’t want her, she wasn’t sure she’d ever be totally comfortable. She’d talked to her mother that afternoon after learning that the results of her test were not ready yet. According to the doctor they had to be really sure before releasing the results. She’d called her to find out how she was taking the new news. She seemed okay with it on the outside but Kite suspected she was only being brave for her benefit, she had to be worried. She’d tried reassuring her and had even hinted at being in another relationship for a while now, surprisingly her mother had sounded happy to hear it. The woman had always been supportive anyway, she trusted her to make the right decisions.
All day, Kite had tried to put Ise’s request of that morning from her mind but it kept coming back, she still almost couldn’t believe he was already ready to meet her family. She did want him to meet them but if she did this then she would be sending the signal that what they shared was really serious. What they had was serious but the question still remained that could she be with him if his mother was against it?
Jeje was at the gate of the estate now, honking twice, the electronic gates rolled open immediately.
“I have just a few minutes to get ready, I hope the woman is in a good mood or she’s going to let me hear it today.” She said turning to look at Kite as if noticing her sudden silence “Are you okay, Kite?”
“Yeah.” Kite replied forcing a smile “Yeah, I’m fine. Just a bit tired, those your friends are exhausting, they talk and talk, especially that Lisa one.”
Jeje laughed, as she drove the car to where she usually parked it.
“But I had fun anyway, thanks.” Kite told her
“No problem, I like hanging out with you, you’re cool with everyone.”
“Thanks.” Kite said unstrapping her seat belt and opening her door
“ So, you and Ise are stayng in this evening?”
“Actually,” Kite smiled “We have dinner reservations at some Italian restaurant in town.” She replied as she got down.
“Wow,” Jeje drawled “That sounds romantic.”
Kite rolled her eyes “Oh, please, its just dinner, nothing to it.” Closing the door.
“Really? If you say so sha, who am I to say otherwise.” She said with a mischievious smile.
Kite shook her head giving up on her, smiling too as she walked toward the house she shared with Ise. The Williams estate was quite large, aside from the main house and Ise’s smaller building, there was a building containing apartments for the staff toward the back , a swimming pool and pool house and then a full basketball court which had been converted from a tennis court. The grounds were huge and well maintained, the flowers and grass cut to perfection, you could mistake the place for a hotel. In all her life she would never have believed people had this much money.
She sighed, sometimes when she really thought about it, she always wondered what she was doing with a guy like Ise. She was so out of place in all this and doubted she could ever get used to it. They were so comfortable, ever since she’d moved in everything had been done for her. She’d never had to cook, her laundry and cleaning of the house was taken care of. She did enjoy it, who wouldn’t but didn’t think she should get too comfortable incase something happened and it was all taken away.
She sighed, why was she thinking like this again? Why did she feel it would be taken away when Ise had made it clear to her the way he felt about her? She felt the same for him too but that didn’t mean something couldn’t come up and disrupt what they had going. Just like what had happened with Izu, she would have sworn he was the one for her but…look how that had ended.
She shook herself off these negative thoughts, she didn’t need them. Ise loved her and she loved him that was all that mattered for now.
She’d gotten to the front door of the house but just as she was about to open the door she heard raised voices from inside. Ise was with someone and it wasn’t going well, quickly she went in and walked down to the living room.
“Kehinde….what are you saying here? Are you denying that you’ve been embezzling funds from the company? Yes or no, Kenny, that’s all I wanna know!” That was Ise’s raised voice.
“And I’m simply asking to know who gave you that bullshit idea?”
“ Give me an answer dammit, Dammit!”
Kite walked in, the two were barely inches apart and it was obvious they would soon come to blows if no one intervened. She’d not known he’d call Kenny over to accuse him like this, he could have used a subtler approach but knowing Ise and his anger, she wasn’t too surprised.
“Ise, whats going on?” She asked going to stand beside him.
Both men turned to acknowledge her presence, Ise’s eyes still blazing with anger while Kenny’s held disdain.
“Its her isn’t it? She’s the one who came up with this shi’t, isn’t it? Don’t you see what she’s trying to do, she’s not even worked for me for a week and she’s already coming between our friendship. We’ve been buddies for years, but you’re going to let one slu’t from…..”
Kenny never finished his words as Ise’s fist came up to land a punch on the side of the other mans face. Kenny staggered from the hit, his face showing surprise before he broke into a laugh “you know what Williams, you want the truth? Fine, yes I embezzled funds from your damn company, not that it made a dent in our profits, I was just helping myself to something that was already bountiful and no one noticed because we were focused on how much the company was bringing in. So I didn’t exactly do much damage, did I?”
“You’re fired, Kenny…you and all your accomplices, I’ll fish all of them out . This is the end of our friendship, you can let yourself out now.”
“Oh please,” Kenny sneered “You think I give a hoot about our friendship or with any of the other guys? You all know I’m not in your league, I came from nothing and attached on to you all because you had everything. Money, connections, everything I would need to advance in my career and life. I’ve always been envious of the easybreezy good life you lot had, and it felt so good taking what was yours, your money, Izy…..”
Ise’s eyes widened as instant realization dawned on himgoing on to hold “You bastard!” He lounged at him again but this time Kite was ready.
“Ise, no!” She called, holding him back while Kenny backed away quickly from his reach, laughing as he did so “Yes, I’m the bastard that seduced your former fiancée and still ratted her out.” He said laughing.
Kite knew Ise was barely holding on here, she could feel the anger emanating from him, he was so angry, she had to speak up “Kenny, get out, leave this place now!” She told him.
Kenny spared her a glance “Shut up, bi’tch, you don’t speak here, you are in this for the money as well and soon, this fool here will realise it. Use your Sophia Vergara body to its full potential and you’ll make a lot off him, that’s all he’s good for, his wealth.”
“I suggest you get out now before I give in to this urge to beat you senseless.” Ise said with a with a misleading coolness.
“I’ll leave now, don’t worry, I’ve never been able to stand your presence anyway.” He turned and left.
Kite held on tight to Ise’s arm, watching as Kenny left and silently praying that Ise wouldn’t give in to what his mind was yearning to do. Kehinde was indeed a piece of work, who would have thought such hate had existed from him to his friend all because he’d been fortunate to have been born privileged. As soon as the door closed, she turned on Ise.
“Are you Okay, Ise?” She asked tugging on his arm and looking up at him, she didn’t like what she saw. Kenny had definitely gotten to him, he had an unreadable expression on but she felt the tension and anger brimming underneath. He pulled his arm off her grip and made his way to the mini bar.
‘uh oh’ she didn’t like this, Ise turned to his beloved single malt scotch whenever things were really bad. She followed behind him, she couldn’t imagine what he must be going through, betrayed by someone you trusted so much. She knew Kenny was an irritating a’ss but who would have thought that he’d held such strong hateful emotions for a friend who had only helped him. Some people were fools.
“Ise, please talk to me.” She said watching him pour himself a shot of the drink.
“Talk to you about what, Kite? You saw it all yourself…”
The tone of his voice stung her but she wouldn’t be deterred, she wanted to help him feel better “Ise….you did nothing wrong but help an undeserving person, he’s the one with issues not you.”
“Are you sure about that?” Her eyed her with a stare that got her cold to the bones as he took a sip of his scotch “You sure I don’t have issues? If I don’t have issues then why do I keep letting people take advantage of me? He said all I was good for was my money, maybe he is right afterall.”
Kite narrowed her eyes starting to get a bit pissed herself “You’re taking the words of that envious fool seriously? Besides are you referring to me as one of the ‘people’ taking advantage of you?”
He shrugged “You did take advantage of my hospitality, didn’t you? Also, I got news from the police today, they got the car and arrested some young lady whose story doesn’t quite correlate with yours. She’s saying you and your fiancée had plans to get the sum of thirty million naira for me before leaving the country to get married. She says she was only watching over the car which she’d been told was yours.”
Kite frowned “What do you think? Ofcourse she’s going to tell lies, she’ll say anything to save her Hyde right now.”
“Maybe, but it got me wondering if you were really done with your fiancée as you claimed last night, you also could have said anything to save yourself! How do I know whats the truth and whats not the truth? It seems everyone around me is out to make a buck off me. It gets me wondering if that’s the real reason you were hesitant about my request this morning?”
Kite was really annoyed now “You know what, Ise? I’ve heard enough! I’ve heard enough and I’m so done here, I will not stay here and listen to you make up stories about me which are so far from the truth. Its obvious your wealth will always get between us, does she love me for my money or not? I’m done, take your stinking money and shove it!” She said now angry as hell, turning she went to pick her handbag from where she’d dropped it.
She loved him but she couldn’t take these insults, it was just too much for her, he could never trust her and what relationship could be built without trust?
“And where are you going?” he called after her
She paused in the doorway “Anywhere away from you! You can wallow in your self pity all you like, I’m rich so the whole world wants a piece of my silly money, I hate myself! As for me, I’m done, I’ll be back sometime to take my things.” She told him turning and leaving
“Kite, come back here.” He ordered “We’re not done here!”
“We are so done.” She replied, angry as hell. She couldn’t do this, he was so right and yet so wrong for her. She couldn’t do it, he could never trust her, that nagging suspicion would always be there and it would always come up between them.
She sighed feeling like she would cry, but not here, she could hold herself until she got into a cab. Quickening her steps, she made for the gate, she had to get out of here fast before she lost her nerve and turned back to go ask him to think again. She was a strong woman, she wouldn’t take degrading insults like he’d thrown at her, she didn’t need his money for anything.
She looked at the three million naira Cartier wristwatch on her wrist “Damn!” She cursed, he’d returned the thing to her that morning and she’d worn it out with Jeje, she would have to return it when she was coming to collect her stuff, she wanted none of what he’d gotten her. She quickly removed the thing from her wrist and put it in the front pocket of her jean pants, she didn’t need any reminders about him. She was cutting off all ties with him immediately, it would help her heal faster.
Too bad about her job which she wouldn’t be going back to, the pay had really been good. That’s what she got for dating her boss, she’d been such a fool to think things might have worked out between them, it was always going to come to this, people like him didn’t mingle with people like her.
She’d almost made it to the gate when she saw Jeje walking out of their building with Mrs. Williams, the G-class Benz was parked, waiting for them.
“Kite,” Jeje called approaching her “Are you okay? Are you going somewhere again?”
Kite nodded, she didn’t really want to speak, afraid that her voice would betray her emotions but Jeje wasn’t giving up.
“What happened? Did Ise do anything…?”
“Jeje, I cant really talk now, I just need to get out of here, please.”
Jeje sighed “Damn, that brother of mine can be such an –“
“Jejelola, do not waste my time please.” Mrs Williams called.
Jeje ignored her “ but why aren’t you taking your car?” She asked but seeing Kite wasn’t in the mood to talk she continued “Okay, let us drop you off atleast? Please, I want to make sure you’re okay.”
Kite managed a wan smile “Okay, but your mom?” She asked looking at the woman warily
“Don’t worry about her, come on.” Jeje said grabbing her arm and pulling her forward.
Kite wasn’t sure about this, she really didn’t want to be anywhere Mrs. Williams, the woman was so scary. “Really, Jeje, I’m sure I can get a cab outside, you don’t have to ..”
“We’ll drop you off wherever you want to stop, don’t worry about my mother.”
Five minutes later, the vehicle was leaving the estate gates, Kite perched in the front passenger seat, feeling Mrs. Williams eyes on her back, eyeing daggers at her. She was tempted to tell her she could have her son back gladly, Kite was done with him. She loved the guy but she couldn’t keep taking insults and accusations from him, there was no point in going on with a relationship where she would have to be explaining herself constantly and begging for his trust. They both could spare themselves all the future heartache and end it here.
“So….kitty?” Mrs Williams started “Is that your name, or what?”
Kite raised an eyebrow, the woman knew her name?
“Mom.” Jeje cautioned “Please leave her alone, she’s not doing too well at the moment.”
“Why? Did anything happen between her and Ise?” The woman asked “You see why I said the two of them were wasting their time? I don’t understand how Ise could stoop so low…..”
“Mother please…” Jeje started but Kite cut in.
“No, its okay Jeje, she’s right. We were wasting our time together and I’ve realised this now.” She turned to look Mrs. Williams squarely in the eye “ You can have your son back, we’re done.”
She saw Mrs Williams raise a brow, whatever the woman was thinking she didn’t know but she guessed she’d be elated at the news, she could finally hook him up with a lady more to his standard.
“Kite…don’t say that, you guys just had a misunderstanding, tempers are still flaring, give yourselves time to calm down, I’m sure you guys will iron things out.” Jeje said but Kite shook her head.
“I’m serious, this time we’re done.” Her phone began ringing, she didn’t need a genius to tell her who it was. Even if she didn’t want to talk to him, she answered it. “yes?” She asked rudely.
“I learnt you just left in my moms car, have the driver turn the car around right now and get back here, we are not done talking.”
“Well, Mr, Commander in Chief, I meant it when I said we were done, theres no turning back.”
“You’re running again, aren’t you? Instead of talking things out, you choose to run.”
“I’m not running from anything, I’m just tired of all the talking, how many times would I have to explain myself to you? Its tiring and getting old, Williams I cant do this, I can’t, its best if we end it now before it goes too far.”
“Don’t say that, Kite, it’s not over. Just comeback now and lets straighten things out?”
Kite sighed about to give in when all hell broke loose, gunshots ringing in the air as the car came to a forceful stop.
“What the hell?” Jeje exclaimed as the were sourrounded by cars all around them with dark hooded figures jumping out and pointing huge guns at their car.
“Whats that Kite, whats happening?” Ise asked over the phone
“I…I don’t know…Our car is being sourrounded with people pointing guns at us..demanding we open the doors…I..I have to go, Ise…I have to….”
“Wait, where is the car? Where are you? Talk to me Kite!”
“Just at the corner of Kwame Nkrumah crescent, this looks serious, Ise. I have to…..” Kit didn’t complete her statement as a shot rang out really close to her and pieces of glass flew everwhere.
There was screaming every where, and amidst it Kite heard “Get out, get out now!” Looking to her left she saw the driver, lying motionless beside her, probably dead as he’d been shot, turning back, her eyes locked with Jeje’s who was
screaming her heart out, Mrs Williams was breathing heavily, she didn’t look good, she looked like she was about to have a heart attack.
She tried to reassure the older woman “Mrs. Williams, please calm down, take deep breaths, everything will be fine.” She told her before turning to Jeje “Jeje, we need to do as they say, we need to get out.”
“Are you crazy? They’ll kill us.”
“Maybe or maybe not, we don’t know that but what I’m sure about is that we are pissing them off royally by staying in here, lets get out before someone else gets shot. Don’t worry, we’ll be fine, just keep your head down and do as they say.” Kite told her opening her door and putting both hands up as she bent low, not trying to look into anyones face, thinking ‘Here goes nothing’.
